The World

The World, our home, our only home. If we could just sit and realize that we don't have nowhere to go we could maybe sit and think how we are destroying our only home. We live in a generation that has nothing to fear because the world its just starting to change, but I think in my further generations. They'll have to live in a world where past generations destroyed it and did whatever they wanted to without thinking into the future. It's sad the way we treat our planet. It's the only thing we have because if our earth gets destroyed we'll all die, with no exceptions. I wish I could take myself back in time because I fear how humans use natural recourses without thinking in how we can restore them. One day we'll just sit and watch the world get destroyed because no solutions are being used. We keep using fossil fuels, we keep cutting trees, we keep overpopulating and that means we need each day more and more raw materials to live.

The World is dying, our home is crying for help. The saddest thing it's that this is home to us humans but also to around 8.7 million species. Aren't we humans? Aren't we the "intelligent" specie? Then we should get our things straight because every decision we make has a positive and a negative effect. We live in a complex food chain where the extinction of a single specie can lead to a global crisis.

Mother nature is our biggest provider, the one who raised everyone and everything we can think of. So can't we be a little more respectful to her for creating such a perfect place for us to live? I'd love to see how many of you will eat concrete when there are no more natural recourses to live from. So let's get our things done right or our world one day will leave us behind and keep up with species that appreciate her effort.

Education

Education is a person's most powerful tool, because with a well informed & educated mind you can get anywhere you want. Sadly in this planet our educational system it's not working as it should. We are not all the same, we don't all learn the same way, there is no human being that's the same as other because we simply are not made to think as the others. So by this I mean that our educational system just sits us on a classroom with a teacher on front preparing us for the next test that we are all so worried about, and I personally don't learn to my maximum potential that way. I'd love to, but it's just impossible for me. I sit and wonder how people agree with such system, we should all stand up and don't let this happen because I'd love to get a class where I could just sit and discuss with the teacher, analyze ideas and make the class a little more interactive.

We live in a system that we all created, each and everyone of us because if something is established it's because we let it get created. So we as humans have the right to change things and make even better things out of it. We just have to unite ourselves without regrets and stand up for what we think is the best for us and for the ones that are around us.

Movies

As soon as I saw the topic "Movies" Titanic was the first thing that came through my mind. Why? I'm sure that I easily watched that movie more than 300 times because I had like this time in my life that I felt asleep watching that movie and if I wasn't watching the movie I would rather stay awake. I had 11 beta fish which were all named Jack, from Jack I to Jack XXI thanks to Leonardo DiCaprio's paper in the movie as Jack Dawson. I loved this movie so much, I loved the effects that James Cameron used because they where so advanced that I couldn't explain to myself how was the movie not real. It's effects are so advanced that 17 years later you still watch the movie and feel it's a premiere movie, because you look at it and you can't find even one detail. More that a movie, it's a piece of art, taking a real life event and turning it into a love story that you still can't manage to think it was just all a movie.

It's just a movie that shaped my early life, because since kid I loved movies that involved action, horror and suspense rather than kid movies. I have two bigger brothers that since always liked to creep me out with horror movies, and at a young age I realized that horror movies where nothing to fear about, and to this day I haven't watched a movie that scares me and I'd love to watch a movie that really scares me because I miss that feeling of watching a good horror movie and really getting scared by it.

A celebrity: Kelly Slater

At 42 years young, Kelly Slater sits as the best surfer of all time having 11 world titles under his belt. He is not only the best surfer in the world, but he is also a singer, a skater, an actor, has his own food brand and has his own clothing brand. In his surfing he has changed the sport from scratch. Back in the 90's he was considered "the future of surfing" being able to ride surfboards as short as no one did at that time and barreling in them like if he did it everyday. He was the rookie of the year on 1991 and on 1992 we won the ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) World Tour because he was the best performer in all 11 contests that took place through the year, all this with just 20 years old making him the youngest world tour champion in the history of ASP. 22 years later and he still sits at the top of the ratings making him what almost everyone calls him "the best athlete in the world".

What I love about him is the way he thinks and realizes stuff. He is a realist person with a spirit to help others and spreads good vibes. He is really open minded to new ideas and has a vast knowledge of things because he travels every corner of the world and that creates intelligence in a person. He is probably the best surfer there is and that there will always be because he has no comparation to any other surfer and maybe to any other athlete. 42 years young and he still kicks the ass out of young surfers and he has also adapted to the new "aerial surfing" probably better that anyone else.

Media

We all need that daily dose of collective communication that technology brings us right? We are so used to it that we have created a dependence on information that media brings us.

Since the beginning of media communications they obviously have been used to communicate things that are interesting to consumers, but as time passed by, humans started using media more like a social control tool. We watch our local news and believe everything we see and hear on them, so government started looking at what they could do to use media towards their favor. Each day media turns worst, government controls a 100% of it and broadcast what they want us to know or believe. If they see that a new incident would create differences between government and people they just present a false side of it or nothing at all, they instead broadcast things that make no sense, just like when Britney shaved her head. At that time, war in Iraq was at its peak and we were just fascinated by how Britney was taking all over the news. Maybe government paid her to do that so media could ignore war and focus on her. There are so many possibilities of fake ideas because interests of media or interests over money. This is just capitalism at it's finest!

Why are there no advertisements about Lamborghini or Ferrari? Simply because persons that can afford one have no time to sit in front of a TV. So get your ass up and go search for something to do because we can always do something to make ourselves better.

Marriage

Anyone around you may be the love of your life, cause you feel a person is the love of your life multiple times throughout your life. So, think about how many times have you seen the love of your life and you don't know it.

Everyone should get married. It's the deepest and best feeling you'll have all your life. Well, it actually is if it is with the person you want to get married to, because marriage has faced many problems since the beginning of humanity; arranged marriages, same sex marriages, differences in religion, cultural problems or differences in age and many more. People may think these problems are things of the past we already left behind, but it's sadly not over. Humans fall in love with practically anyone, it's unpredictable. Marriage should be a thing between the two persons that are in love, no one else, no ideals else. Marriage is a thing of love between two humans so religion, cultures, parents... Let them be happy! Marriage shouldn't have any barriers, marriage should be as free as love itself. Love is the best feeling a person could feel and the best part is that it's free. So I believe marriage should be as free as the word, because if it's true love then there should be no limits to it. Let marriage be free, to everyone, every group, every religion. Marriage means the same to everyone, then, why not practice it that way?

Religion

Religion really is a controversial idea & I like the fact I can really give my opinion towards it in this blog. Religion is somewhat of a social control over people since the humans adquired the knowledge that made us a superior race, because I see that the average human needs a bigger figure to rely on, because thats an explanation to things that humans have no knowledge of. But when clever people saw how humans relied on a bigger figure, people started to take advantage of it and created the churches, which reunited followers of a certain religion and gave an economical advantage to the ones that where the leaders of those temples. But still religion is a good thing, I really like to see people doing good things because of it. But I feel better when I do things to make my self happy, when I do things for my own good knowing that it is the right thing to do and not do it because it is what religion tells me its the right thing. I find better when humans do the right thing just because they want to and not because they should do, because you are showing what you really can and will do, meanwhile in religion there are many persons that they are being hypocrite doing things they are not feeling like doing, they just do it for "purification of the soul". I believe in the human power, in the power of nature and in the idea that the universe is immeasurable in respect to a human's capacity of understanding, humans will never be able to comprehend it. Earth is 4.6 billion years old, scaling that to 46 years, humans have just been here for 4 hours. So we have to be realists and accept that the power of nature is the biggest power there exists, bigger than us and bigger than religion.

War

Merriam-Webster Dictionary describes war as "a state of usually open and declared armed hostile between states or nations." But through my eyes war is so much more. War is the lack of maturity between human civilization, because problems in this world can be solved by so many other ways. We can solve conflicts talking, voting, or even the same population opposing to international conflicts between nations.

But in the other hand, somehow I sometimes see war as the natural way to balance population because we see in animals how they tend to prey each other in order to eat and to create a balance in the world. But us humans, we have no animal that preys us and we are obviously overpopulated, so somehow humans need to balance and thats an instinct, and when civilizations are made differences are established, differences people within the civilization accept as normal. Those differences make conflicts between civilizations and there comes war, and I can say that war is the way humans "naturally" control their population, but because there is a vast number of persons out there, wars turn out to be such at a big scale.

Death

As I hear the word "death" rapidly comes to my head Andy Irons. He was an APS (Association of Surfing Professionals) surfer which was a very successful competitor, wining various world titles and many events. He was a big idol to me since I was really small because to him surfing was literally everything and he had this unique style of surfing so consistent that I couldn't believe. As the 2010 ASP World Tour came to a beginning, they announced the 2010 Rip Curl Pro at Middles Beach, Isabela, Puerto Rico and I was so stoked to think that I would now see all these surfers in front of me. The contest window started on Oct. 30, but as no waves showed up it was delayed. But, on November 2nd, 2010 Andy Irons was found lying dead on his bed on a hotel. People say that dengue killed him, others that he had a terrible ill, but autopsy showed that he had been using various drugs that combined could turn out to be lethal. That was a big turn and disaster for the surfing history, because Andy at that time was at the top 3 surfers, he also had his wife, Lyndie, pregnant with 7 months and their child was born the opening day of the final contest of the 2010 World Tour. So the death of Andy Irons was no joke to the surfing industry. Even in Hawaii they have the Andy Irons Day so you could imagine what a big figure this surfer was for them.

Happiness

Happiness, a really broad topic huh? Well happiness is something really relative because each person has different points of view, but since this blog is about me then I'll like to talk about what is happiness to me.

Happiness is having peace of mind, living waiting for what's going to happen tomorrow because today prized me an adventure, so you know tomorrow there'll be another one awaiting for you. By this I mean living a life by the sea, living a life where you feel happy with yourself. In my case I'd rather be surfing than anything else in the world. Thats true happiness for me, but sadly we live in a world that money is everything and you have to work for your shit. Thats no problem for me if I'm working on what I want to do. Happiness to me its not that far away, I live it everyday I grab my surfboard and head to the salty waters of our island, because that's like a mental relief, where I disconnect from everything easily, from every problem, from every negative vibe. Surfing its so catchy because once you realize how easy is to feel good by doing it, you'll just want to grab your stuff and head to the beach. It's like a morning coffee, or maybe better. Its something you have to live because there are no words to explain to you how is that feeling of standing on a surfboard riding a wave.

Introduction

About my blog! Well this blog its about my English Class in the University of Puerto Rico in Cayey with the professor Iara Segarra. Weekly I'll be posting some narrative writing about certain broad topics which I'll have to narrow down. It will be a fun ride because the weekly topics are really controversial which I can take my ideas to a whole new level, there are practically no limits so I just expect to do my best! I hope you enjoy my blog as much as I'll do!
